This year, despite acknowledging small triumphant wins (Hunt, Leo, Shannon and Jenkins and In Bruges), they really sucked big time when they refused to let The Dark Knight score a best picture nod. And by omitting Chris Nolan in the directors list, it was already double jeopardy. It really stinks, especially if you feel really strongly about the film. As Awards Daily guru, Sasha Stone puts it, despite how great it was, it was still about a batboy. And that sucks.
Further, Sally Hawkins, who I think delivered one of the best, most sincere and most unforgettable performances of the year in Happy Go Lucky, and who clinched a lot of Critics group accolades, got booted out. Bruce Springsteen, who wrote one of the best songs for a motion picture, for The Wrestler, which I think sorely missed out also, was snubbed. AD really got it in the gut: the trick is not minding. Here is the list of 2009 Oscar nominations.

sayang nga yung TDK. i really thought it was going to make the list until the reader came into the scene.
i have copies of the wrestler and happy go lucky pero di ko pa napapanood.
Batman should be nominated. It was a superhero movie in a century that actually made sense.
i thought "ploning" was nominated. hmmm...
I don't believe in the Oscars. I find them unadventurous and too pedestrian.
When Titanic beat L.A. Confidential in 1997, and Forrest Gump won over Quiz Show and Pulp Fiction in 1994, I almost puked.
I like Cannes more.
Andy: Yeah. I don't think I will even watch the ceremonies live on TV. Mind if I give another example? Shakespeare in Love over Saving Private Ryan, and of the recent, Crash over Brokeback Mountain.
Lucas: Ploning was never gonna go anywhere near the Top 5. Tough ang competition sa Foreign Language this year (Germany, Israel, France, Japan, Austria. Italy's Gomorrah didn't even made it to the cut). And Philippines was never nominated for a Foreign Language Oscar ever.
Scud: Panoorin mo na ang The Wrestler and Happy Go Lucky.
hindi lang pala ako ang boto sa LA Confidential over Titanic. :-)
I haven't seen LA Confidential in full though, so Titanic is kinda okay for me because I was like a kid when I saw that and I was so awed that time and I recently saw it on cable the other day and found myself mouthing the familiar lines in the film and still feeling awed by such Leo-Kate chemistry. I'd have to agree though over Pulp Fiction but judging by the Academy's standards of lame-old traditionalism, I wasn't surprised over FOrrest Gump.
you should watch the film in full. that's the first movie i saw that i didn't know what the story was or what the reviews were.
the oscars is like god. u may not care for it but it's the mother of of all awards shows and that compels u to watch it. also, oscar acceptance speeches are corny.
